Basic Tips for Newbie Webmasters

By admin On May 14, 2010 No Comments

We have stepped well into the space age. At this time, computer has taken a prime role as it plays an important part in everybody’s life. Many people have their own websites now-a-days and those who don’t, want to. The facility of internet has opened a window to unlimited possibilities for any individual who would like to avail them. If you an aspiring webmaster and are all set to have our very own website or are looking for a reliable business web hosting then following are the things you need to consider in order to make the best choice in choosing the host for your website.

First and foremost, make sure that the service you are selecting for a web host is not a scam. The fact that internet has provided ease in so many matters also means that there are whole lot of ways for ill doers who have taken up internet as their playground for internet crimes. Look for a host with credentials, some service which has been in the business for some time and has good reviews. Try and get in touch with their customer service and inquire or you can track down a few customers and ask about the kind of service they offer. In any business, reliability is one of the most important things. Some of the cheap web hosting companies survive the business of hosting on the basis of their reliability.

For some people, cost is the most important thing to look for in a good business hosting. As far as the general rule goes, the costlier, the better. This, however, cannot be the case in some services. You always have to check the prices offered by the companies with those of the others to have an idea. While comparing the prices is a good idea, it is also advisable to compare the kind of plans, services, features and utilities offered by the two services which you are comparing. It is very much possible that two companies offer the same price for a completely different package. In that case, any cheap hosting which serves your needs best is the option to select.

The kind of customer service offered by any hosting company determines the level of respect they have for their customers. Do not take a company’s claim word for word. Experiment for yourself and if you find it satisfactory and helpful, then it is an added plus for that particular service. The best web hosting companies have better customer service than some of the others. Watch out for these basics while selecting a host and you should be okay.

The Easy Way to Manage Domain

By admin On April 20, 2010 No Comments

For some webmasters domain management can be a tricky business, especially when you have Canadian web hosting. The performance of the sites largely depends on how they are managed. Managing the site when it is both on and offline is up to the webmaster himself. One should be extra careful while encoding the registered, official domain names. A single incorrect letter and you end up on a completely different site. That is why you should take extreme caution with all your actions while you carry out tasks as an administrator of your website, especially regarding WHOIS. A WHOIS record shows some rudimentary information regarding your domain that you should familiarize yourself with in order to manage your domain in a better way.

Following is the information that can come up in the WHOIS record. The first and foremost important thing or the person is the administrative contact. This is the person who is contacted in case there is something important that is to be communicated regarding the website. This is the most important point of contact in business web hosting. Whoever is responsible or acts as the administrative contact comes up under the under the section of the same name in the WHOIS record. This is normally the person who is practically responsible for it all. He is the one who keeps the domain running smoothly by managing the site. He is the one who is contacted if and when there is a problem that arises concerning the domain name of the web page.

Then there is the registrant that refers to the person registered with the Canadian hosting or whichever hosting service as the owner of the domain in question. Another important point of contact that comes mentioned in the WHOIS record under the Billing contact is the person responsible for all the billing matters concerning the domain. If and when webmasters plan on changing the terms and conditions or even sell their domain, all these matters are dealt with by the billing contact person. It is very important that you regulate and document all information regarding the billing of you domain and keep it all up to date as well. A well kept record of all the billing information can save you a lot of time.

As a webmaster or a user of the business hosting service, it is absolutely essential to keep track of all the activities related to the maintenance of your site. You can save yourself a lot of trouble and time by keeping track of all the changes you make over time. The regular documentation of the registration process can ensure the smooth functioning of your website. A well managed domain also helps in improving the performance of your webpage.

How Neutralization of Net Affects Everyone

By admin On April 10, 2010 No Comments

One of the most frequently used jargons now-a-days is undoubtedly ‘neutrality of network’. It may sound unfortunate to hear but not many people really seem to know what that really means. That is because of the fact that not everybody is familiar with the certain aspects of business web hosting. Various other aspects of hosting like bandwidth, ISPs, ADSL and several other things are just as well not understood by most people so it is one of those things. This article will help you understand the neutrality of the network in a better manner.

Nobody and I mean nobody likes it when a certain website on the web takes a fraction bit longer to load on the web, on cheap website hosting. In today’s fast paced world, people want things done and they want them done quickly. But the size of content uploaded on most of the websites makes them heavier to up or download on various internet connections. Part of it is connected with the internet connection of the visitor of that particular website but the webmaster of that specific website in question and the kind of web host he has, is also partly responsible for the time his website takes to upload.

Most of the commoners on the web, on one hand, love the unlimited supply of information on the web; they however do not necessarily too fond of paying for it on the other hand. People think that just by paying their monthly subscription for their internet connection, they get a license of free access to almost all other things available on the web. The ultimate sufferer in this case is the content producer. The ISPs, even though, get their monthly share but are not satisfied with this much. Certain websites with their best web hosting services, came up with their personalized solutions to this virtual content abuse, like for example, AOL made it a compulsion for their users to use customized browser otherwise it refused to grant access to certain content on their pages but it just did not work.

Now the solution the ISPs, along with the business hosting have come up with is a tricky one and they’re calling it ‘traffic shaping’. ISPs have always had a grudge against P2P consoles like bit torrent, mule, kaaza, limewire etc that it led to an altogether abandonment of these applications. A solution of the content on the web along with these lines has been given the name of neutrality of network where some huge companies and the cheap hosting services as well are planning to pay the ISPs to prioritize the company listing. As the end result of this, the ISPs would ask their users to pay for all the content they access. That is surely dangerous news but the impossibility of getting this imposed on an international level makes this plan seemingly impracticable. Let’s just hope it stays that way.

How is Integrated Database Important

By admin On April 1, 2010 No Comments

The presence of your business on the web is very important. It is your medium with the help of which you and your business reaches far and off corners of the world. This is the best possible means to expand your business beyond the horizons. With the help of right tools and applications and a good business web hosting, your business has infinite opportunities. Your website on your business hosting can serve as your window to the world and a myriad of options are open to you.

Sharing information and content of your choice is a piece of cake if you know what you’re doing and how you can go about doing it. You have a huge choice of applications to put on your website. You can choose to share as much information as you like, you can be as precise or as elaborate as you like. You can design your site with the help of your web host so that you can get more and more visitors every month or you can do the exact opposite that is just rely on the regular visitors, severing only limited but loyal traffic month after month.

In both the cases, you will need database integration. Whether cheap hosting or the self proclaim best web hosting services, all offer dynamic interfaces which allow the users to use images and content along with products and other information use database. Database is used to store the data on web pages.
With any database application, and a suitable cheap website hosting service, using the service to your advantage is easy. Once you do that, it could act as the gateway to limitless progress for your ecommerce business, data processing, search and what not. Some of the most widely used software like mySQL, PHP are free. That is one of the biggest reasons why both these consoles have such a high number of users. Their free service acts as a magnet for users making them a hub or one of the best sources for integrated database.

Most web hosts offer these applications as part of their packages. ColdFusion is another widely used database integration technique. The fact that Coldfusion enhances HTML tags help it rank higher amongst other data integration consoles. It also boosts the functions of data validation. That is also another great plus. All in all, free applications act as the best data integration source and should be preferred over anything else.

Understanding Mail Servers, How They Work

By admin On March 25, 2010 No Comments

A server is a computer that handles emails or electronic mails from one computer (mailbox) to another. The server acts like a virtual post office that deals with all incoming and outgoing emails. All kinds of business web hosting offer email services. All servers operate on the same the same lines, and handle mails for more people then you can possibly imagine, and are also used for sending and receiving emails across the other network. That is to say one network can send and receive emails from other server as well.

All Web Host servers, especially business hosting servers used by companies have mail servers which work along the same lines. With a little help, understanding these mail servers is easy. Each company’s or client’s presence on web is identified by specific ISPs which are also known as the Internet Service Providers. These ISPs usually have their own mail servers. For everyone else, there is a sort of generic system which works on somewhat same guidelines.

Receiving and sending emails is a simple process but how does it really work? If and when you send out an email, for example in cheap website hosting or any other for that matter, to somebody who is one the same server as you, your mail server sends the mail for you. And that is how the client, indirectly, receives the email sent by you. If and when you send out emails to somebody who uses a different mail server than yourself even then the procedure is almost the same. The email you send out goes first to your server and then from there to the mail server of the person to whom you sent the email in the first place. It is his email server which then sends the email to the original person to whom the email was originally directed. That is say your server does the job for you when it comes to emailing.

You can use different applications to send emails. All the best web hosting services offer email interaction via applications like Microsoft Outlook or Eudora with the help of which clients send each other emails. These applications then send an email to the server. Mail servers use varying systems to send the emails, like for example, ESMTP or SMPT (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). These are some of the applications used by servers to send and receive emails to each other. In the simplest words, that is how almost all mail servers work.

For any webmaster or internet user, emailing is part of the regular web activity especially if you are on cheap hosting. For any email address, spam protection is important. Some mail servers have a notoriously lax policy regarding spammers while others are zero tolerance policy.

Confessions of Apple iPad – No Flash, Really!

By admin On February 11, 2010 No Comments

There was much hue and cry when Apple iPad released a video wrongfully portraying the device capable of playing flash video. Shortly after the ad was posted, the product was bashed with severe criticism. Many accused Apple iPad ‘dishonest advertisement’. The debate went on for days without any decisive conclusion. For that we are definitely grateful otherwise this debate could have gone on for days and days for there are many super loyal Apple fans out there.

Then finally came along Apple’s confession. No, not verbal confessional but rather a more implicit and subtle kind of confession where Apple iPad released an advertisement WITHOUT the part where the device was wrongly portrayed to be capable of playing flash videos. And that is how they did with grace. Apple iPad really does not have the teeth to chew what it bit off, so in the end, it is no surprise that it had to spit it out. But in a way, the end victory does still belong to Apple which takes the cake with its innovative products and courageous media gimmicks. Well, you know what I mean.

This was a huge turn off for all the Apple fans. They loyal fans thought that all the criticism on flash was no more than cheap anti-advertisement techniques, attempts to besmirch an accomplished brand like Apple. They advertisement had given them hope and they clung to it. Their bubble was burst by none other than Apple itself. Well, so much for keeping the fans happy who were really pinning their hopes on the advertisement which was their only hope and argument against all the criticism!

But people who do keep up the news are not surprised. Apple had made it intentions of not lending any support to Adobe Flash player pretty clear even before the product was actually released. In fact, this was made pretty clear even before the product was on the drawing board. But what could one two about eager fans? Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

So here is an advice for fans, it is good to know. And of course, blind following pays no one. Be aware of your rights as a customer and always, always do some research before you actually waste your hard earned money away on a product that is not worth it. In this case, Apple iPad! The question is though; can iPad be modified to support flash? I guess we will have to wait and see for the answer to this one.

How To Analyze Personal Web hosting

By admin On January 29, 2010 No Comments

The more complex the hosting is, the more services they provide this could be the only difference between regular web hosting and sub-domain web hosting. Regular web hosting provides high personalized functions that assures one a quality in sound level. As these services are fee-based, the money produced are used in maintenance, service improvement and for supplying greater technical support. However, cheap web hosting can be found with regular web hosts. Cheap web hosting offer clients the ability to host their website on a powerful, well managed server, at a low monthly cost. They provide individual websites with connectivity, certain uptime and vast technical hold.

They may not be a good choice to host private websites because the range and difficulty of services provided is not really needed for the purpose of posting your resume, or sharing pictures with family members. In this case, business web hosting will be acknowledged for those who are looking for a reliable web presence without having advanced technical skills. This would be mostly attracted by the people who are starting an Internet business and the feature that lure would be business start-up id that they allow them to have their website hosting on their field name such as http://www.their businessname dot com.

In these services the prices vary widely and users can expect the quality to change depending upon the amount paid for the service. There is no exception to the rule, “buyer bewares”. If one buys a reasonably inexpensive package, then you can expect the quality to be reflected to the cost of the service. However, you will not get all the “bells and whistles” that you would get from a regular web hosting service. Low priced or even free packages would lead to a variety of problems such as more network outages and other unexpected service problems. These low priced or free packages may be suitable for the people who are looking for plainness for their unnecessary personal site, but it would definitely be inappropriate for someone trying to carry out a genuine business on the web.
